What is Person?

Definition of Person: The different subjects of verb in different sentences is called person.

For example:

  1. I am reading a book.
  2. You are an intelligent girl.
  3. Andraw is a student.
  4. He is a good player.
  5. It is very nice.
  6. They are playing football in the field.

In the above sentences- I, You, He, They, Andraw and It are different types of Subject. In different sentences, different subject of the verb is called Person.

 

Classification of Person

Types of Person:

There are three types of person:

  1. First Person
  2. Second Person
  3. Third Person.

What is First Person?

Definition of First Person: The person which is used to indicate the subject is called First Person.

For example:

  1. I am reading a book.
  2. We are playing football in the field.

In the above first sentence ‘I’ and second sentence ‘We’- In these sentences the speaker is referring to himself. So, They are called First Person.

The First Person used in any Sentence is:

What is Second Person?

Definition of Second Person: With whom something is said is called Second Person

For example:

  1. You are an intelligent girl.
  2. You are very smart.

In the above first sentence ‘You’ and second sentence ‘ You ‘- With this word (you) the speaker is saying something to someone. They are called Second Person.

The Second Person used in any Sentence is:

What Is A Third Person? Definition and Examples

What is Third Person?

Definition of Third Person: About whom something is said is called Third Person.

For example:

  1. Andraw is a good player.
  2. It is a beautiful poem.

In the above first sentence ‘Andraw’ and second sentence ‘It’- With this word (‘Andraw’, ‘It’) the speaker is saying something about a third person and a object. They are called Third Person.

Note: except from First Person and Second Person, all the people, objects and animals are Third Person. That is, except for I, We and You, the names of all people or objects in the world are Third Person

The Third Person used in any Sentence is:

Him, Her Them
